Some of South Dakota’s most talented high school vocal students were in the Black Hills on Saturday, Oct. 28 for All State Chorus. The 2023 concert was held in Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.

The cross country Academic All-State list was announced on Oct. 24.

The 1st round of Class 11A South Dakota football playoffs took place on Thursday, Oct. 26. Dakota Valley was the #5 seed versus #4 Sioux Falls Christian (SFC) at Bob Young Field on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls.

The last volleyball match of the regular season for the Panthers occurred in Tea on Monday, Oct. 23.

The Siouxland Humane Society (SHS) has received national recognition from the Best Friends Animal Society. A plaque was awarded for achieving a save rate of over 90 percent for year 2022, naming the SHS a no-kill shelter.

The Dakota Valley School Board met in regular session Oct. 9 to a short agenda.

A project which was supposed to be completed by Oct. 31, will be delayed due to a water leak. The Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors was notified of the complication at their meeting on Oct. 16.

Due to cool temperatures the trunk or treat event for North Sioux City, on Oct. 29, was moved inside the police station building. That did not stop the crowds and costumes. Many congregated from 4 to 6 p.m. to visit the various stations decorated in the spirit of Halloween. Employees of North Sioux City, the local library, Peoples Bank, Taco Johns, the fire department/EMS services and more handed out candy at the event which had a long line the entire time.

Another dynamic Dakota Valley dance season concluded on Friday, Oct. 20 and it did so in fantastic fashion. For the 14th consecutive year the Panthers were crowned South Dakota Class A Grand Champions.

For the first time since 2008, the Groton Area Tigers challenged the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on the football field. In the first round of playoffs, Groton Area played at EPJ on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.
