D&I train derailment in North Sioux City

    A Dakota & Iowa (D&I) Railroad train derailed in North Sioux City in the early evening of Wednesday, Aug. 30. At 3:54 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to railroad bridge on Main Street and Highway 105. Upon arriving on the scene, emergency responders were faced with 16 derailed cars with two of them hanging from the eastside bridge. There was no property damage or injuries in the derailment.

    Panther football down Chamberlain Cubs

    The Panther football team had an away game on Friday, Sept. 1 and it was quite a roadtrip to Chamberlain to take on the Cubs. Chamberlain is approximately 215 miles away, but the three-plus hour drive was wor th it for the Panthers who came away with a big win 49-13.

    Dakota Valley volleyball team dominates home-court

    Dakota Valley volleyball had a home contest on Tuesday, Aug. 29 and travelled a short way up the interstate to take on Elk Point-Jefferson on Thursday, Aug. 31. Both matches would go to 4 sets and both would end with wins for the Panthers.

    Huskies handed first loss of the season

    It was a difficult night Sept. 1 as the Huskies were handed their first loss of the season from the Sioux Valley Cossacks.

    Marx medals at Dakota Valley Cross Country Invite

    The Huskies made a short trip south to North Sioux City to participate in Dakota Valley’s annual meet at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve. Even though the Huskies didn’t field a team for their varsity matches, they still ran really well.

    Pantry needs beans

    The Elk Point Food Pantry is reaching out to the area communities for donations. Right now, the pantry needs beans – any type of beans. A list of some of the beans needed are Pork and Beans, refried beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, black beans and chili beans.
