Coming off of a perfect season, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies extended their winning streak to 13-0 at their first game of the 2023 season against the Parker Pheasants Aug. 18.

Union County Museum updates signs, adds donor plaque

The Union County Historical Society (UCHS) updated the Charles Murtha House museum sign in the spring of 2023. After years of weathering, the paint on the sign was beginning to fade and the wooden posts holding up the sign were decaying.

First Dakota Title purchased the Masonic Lodge #3 building in May 2023. The building was purchased for $223,000.

Celebrating 30 years with the USPS

Marshall Hill was recently presented a plaque for his 30 years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service. In his 30 years, Hill has worked at the North Sioux City, Jefferson and Elk Point Post Offices. Hill is currently the Interim Post Master at the Elk Point Post Office.

Dakota Valley boys golf team secures 2nd place

It was tough weather conditions at the 2023 West Central Early Bird Boys Golf Invitational in Hartford on Monday, Aug. 14. However, Dakota Valley persevered against the tough wind and strong competition in their 1st meet of the season to claim runner-up with a team score of +55.

Boys soccer team stays resilient despite loss to Tea Area

For the very first game of the boys soccer season on Thursday, Aug. 17 it was a tough opponent for Dakota Valley. The Panther varsity roster squared off in a match at Tea versus the Titans who have been dominant in the sport since it became sanctioned for high schools in South Dakota in 2011.

Snow Cones in the Park

The Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) hosted “Snow Cones in the Park” on Saturday, Aug. 12 in Dakota Dunes. Free snow cones were offered at the Prairie Park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. before the vendor moved to the Meadows Park from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
