EPJ upsets top seeds to claim state runner‑up

The Husky softball team turned their Class A state softball tournament into an epic Cinderella story on June 4-6, 2026. They entered the bracket as a #8 seed and captured the Class A runnerup trophy amongst fierce competition. Competing in Aberdeen, South Dakota, over the course of 3 days, Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) played some of their best softball to date.

Kommes climbs into top 40 as Jansen posts season‑best

The 2026 girls golf season came to a close June 1-2 at Two Rivers Golf Course, where EPJ was represented by juniors Sailor Kommes and Lexi Jansen. The pair earned their spots at the Class A State Tournament after qualifying at the Region 2 Tournament in Canton two weeks earlier.

Excellent hand-offs, huge leaps, swift splits and fierce finishes were had by Elk Point-Jefferson at the South Dakota High School Activities Association’s state track and field contest on May 28-30, 2026. The competition happened at Howard Wood Stadium, in Sioux Falls, with the top 24 performers from the season working hard in prelims and finals.

EPJ wins 20–15 shootout to clinch state berth

The Elk Point-Jefferson softball team played a thrilling SODAK 16 qualifier game on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The Huskies were the hosts as the #8 seed in Class A and their opponent was the #9 seed Dell Rapids. With 5 lead changes in the battle, it was Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) ending the contest on top by a score of 20-15. The victory advanced the Huskies to the South Dakota state softball tournament, on June 4-6, 2026, in Aberdeen.

Huskies shine with multiple meet records at SESD

The Southeast South Dakota (SESD) Showcase track and field meet was held on May 21, 2026 with Elk Point-Jefferson in attendance. The contest was hosted by Dakota Valley with schools from Alcester-Hudson, Beresford, Canton, Centerville, Irene-Wakonda, Lennox, Parker/Marion and Vermillion also competing. Strong performances on the track and at the field events were observed as the Huskies left North Sioux City with many top placings.

The Elk Point-Jefferson girls golf team traveled to Canton last Thursday (May 21, 2026) to compete in the Region 2A meet, facing some of the top individual competitors and teams in Class A across the state.

EPJ shows grit in pair of one‑run extra‑inning battles

Two tight contests concluded regular season play for the Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) varsity softball team in mid-May. Each ball game had the Huskies on the losing end, but only by a single run. On May 19, 2026 it was an extra innings battle against Madison and on May 23, 2026 it was another extended game versus Dell Rapids (DR).

Lady golfers steady in tough field at West Central Invite

Varsity girl golfers from Elk Point-Jefferson hit the links on Monday, May 11, 2026 for the West Central Invite. They competed against student athletes from Dakota Valley, Sioux Falls Christian, Vermillion, Madison, Chamberlain, West Central, Canton and more. The Huskies tied for 8th place overall with Winner. Both teams secured a +135. The EPJ girls golf team bested Lennox, Dell Rapids and Tri-Valley.

EPJ storms past the wind for conference wins

Wind conditions were rough, but the Huskies persevered to secure strong finishes at the DAK XII conference meet, on May 14, 2026, in Tri-Valley. Gold medals and the title of conference champions went to Elk Point-Jefferson’s Lauren McDermott and Gracelyn Campbell. Mc-Dermott won the girls 100m hurdles and Campbell was the overall winner in girls long jump. McDermott ran a 15.17 in her race and Campbell jumped a DAK XII conference record leap of 1711.25.
