Muddy Bites

Remember hot summer days as a child and getting to have ice cream – especially a sundae cone? The best part, besides the ice cream of course, was at the very bottom of the cone there was a bunch of chocolate. That’s the idea where Muddy Bites came from – the best part of a sundae cone.
Hole in One!

Enjoying new slide before season’s end

The slide finally arrived and was able to be installed at the Elk Point City Pool. The slide opened for the last weekend of the pool’s season Aug. 27 and 28.
Immanuel holds Family Fun Night

The Immanuel Lutheran Church Council decided to bring the Elk Point and Jefferson communities together one more time to celebrate summer and the beginning of the school year. A Family Fun Night & BBQ was held the evening of Sunday, Aug. 28.
UNION COUNTY FAIR RESULTS 2

The Union County Fairboard and Extension Staff would like to congratulate the 4-H members, leaders and parents on all the static and livestock exhibits and Youth-In-Action events that 4-H members participated in at the recent Union County Fair and 4-H Achievement Days. South Dakota 4-H follows the Danish ribbon system. 4-H awards are based on a standard, instead of a comparison of other exhibits in the class. By using the Danish system, each exhibit gets judged on its own merit. Each 4-H members are allowed to take up four display exhibits, four exhibits per each animal species and four exhibits per each Youth-In-Action event to the South Dakota State Fair. The State Fair in Huron is Sept. 1-5.

Flickboards: A game for all ages

When children are young and they obsess and develop a passion over a certain sport, show or game, parents try to fuel their child’s passion. In Jim Braunschweig’s case, it was his four-year-old son Brady who had an obsession with soccer. Little did Braunschweig know, his need to fuel his son’s passion of soccer would lead into a business adventure.

Dakota Valley 16U VFW has successful season

A successful season of summer baseball was had by the Dakota Valley 16U VFW team who ended with a record of 14-13-1. A winning streak of 5 games to start the season back in June propelled the squad to regional wins and a punched ticket to the 2023 SD VFW Class A state tournament in Beresford on Aug. 4-6.

Couple weds

Andrew Rosenbaum and Ashley Olding were united in marriage June 12, 2023. The couple chose to exchange their wedding vows in a small intimate setting with their respective families on beautiful Sunset Beach, FL.

Sidewalks to be installed

With the summer months and children, adults heading to the pool, the council discussed the need for a sidewalk from Green Street to Truman Street on Main Street properties. The council agreed on July 11 that it needed to be completed as it a safety concern with the increased activity of those heading to the pool.

A love for Jefferson leads to 23 years as mayor

Joe Bogenreif is a name many in Jefferson know. Besides officially becoming a resident in 1995, Bogenreif was mayor for 23 years. It wasn’t until May of this year, that Bogenreif stepped down and passed the torch.

SD strives to become lead free

A nationwide program is coming to South Dakota and South Dakota officials are asking for the public’s help. The Safe Drinking Water Act is a nationwide health initiative to make sure that water pipes and drinking water are free of lead.
