Dakota Valley students explore Italy, Spain

A Panther travel group, consisting of 15 students and 14 chaperones, took in the sights of Italy and Spain from June 12 through June 23. An incredible experience was had by all who attended. The trip was coordinated by Dakota Valley high school’s art teacher, Demi Harlan and Spanish instructor Amanda Valbuena.

Husky Senior Legion baseball heads to state

Pitching – Kayden Moore went 6 innings. He allowed 4 earned runs on 10 hits and struck out 1.

Softball team secures 2nd place at state tournament

Elk Point-Jefferson softball participated in the USA South Dakota Youth Fastpitch State Softball tournament July 14-16. In their opening round of play, the Huskies went up against the Tropics.

Cross Country holds annual fundraiser

Elk Point-Jefferson’s cross country team held its annual Road Race fundraiser July 22. They had 47 runners participate and 20 people walking in the mile race. The winner of the mile walk was Leah Hanson.

Jefferson has record breaking Days of ’59

Another summer comes to a close as the City of Jefferson hosted hundreds of people throughout their annual Days of ’59 festivities July 12-16. The Days kicked off with a record turn out of the annual Jefferson Fire Department Texas Hold ’Em tournament on July 12 at Bud’s Bar.

LifeServe holds blood drive

For over 15 years, Elk Point and surrounding communities have supported the local blood bank, LifeServe Blood Center, with at least six blood donation opportunities per year. Over the course of July, one blood drive was hosted to support the 150+ local hospitals that Life-Serve Blood Center serves. They collected 21 units of blood which has the ability to save up to 63 local lives.

Elk Point hosted the VFW 14U State A Baseball tournament

Elk Point hosted the 2023 South Dakota VFW 14U State A Baseball tournament July 21-23. Teams participating in the tournament were West Central, Mobridge, Vermillion, Belle Fourche, Madison Black, Tea, Milbank and Elk Point-Jefferson.

Dakota Valley hosts Camp Invention

Ninety kids and eight high school volunteers participated in this year’s Camp Invention for 2023 at Dakota Valley. From May 30 to June 2, campers par ticipated in daily educational fun associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Dakota Valley Panthers participate in Region play

It was an up and down tourney for the Dakota Valley senior legion baseball team as they fell short of making state during Regional 3B play in Elk Point on July 16, July 17 and July 18. It was a 3-0 victory for the Panthers over Elk Point-Jefferson on Sunday, July 16.
