EPJ junior legion pushes late in matchup with Renner

Huskies on the junior legion baseball roster took on Renner’s Post 307 on Sunday, July 12, 2026. It was a tight contest where Renner jumped out to an early lead by putting all 6 of their runs on the scoreboard in the 1st inning. As guests, Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) would not score until the 3rd inning.

EP awards water main bid

The Elk Point City Council approved a major water-main construction bid, adopted two sidewalk resolutions and handled several organizational appointments during its July 6 regular meeting. Mayor Deb McCreary presided with council members Abraham, Irwin, Irlbeck and Austad present, while Hurlbert was absent. At the start of the meeting, Finance Officer Erika Hammitt administered the oath of office to Mayor McCreary, Ward One council member Ben Irlbeck, Ward Two council member Brian Wells, and Ward Three council members Renee Irwin and Meghan Austad. Council members subsequently approved the agenda and minutes from June 1 before authorizing the payment of June salaries and bills across the general and enterprise funds.

Labor board reviews Sheriff’s

Recent personnel changes within the Union County Sheriff’s Office have been submitted for administrative review following a filing by a regional labor union. Deputies Zach Brown and Kevin O’Mahoney were separated from employment with the department on June 23.
