On January 21, 2025, the Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting began promptly at 8:30 a.m. and was attended by Commissioners Michael Dailey, Tom Kimmel, Kevin Joffer, and Peggy Ustad.

Arctic temps affect schools, inauguration

It was a busy news day in regards to weather and politics on Monday, January 20, 2025. Arctic temperatures had Dakota Valley and Elk Point-Jefferson calling for late starts to the school day in order to keep morning commutes safe. The next President of the United States also took the oath of office in Washington D.C.

Elk Point-Jefferson boys pull off road win against A-W

A strong conference rival, the Vermillion Tanagers, came to town on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 to take on the Elk Point-Jefferson boys basketball team. The two teams are members of the DAK 12 Conference and both are also aligned in Region 4A for Class A in South Dakota.

Elk Point-Jefferson lady Huskies have big win on road

The Huskies came out strong against the Vermillion Tanagers on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. It was a home contest and Elk Point-Jefferson had a great 1st quarter attack. They led 18-4 early in the 2nd quarter.

High school thespians at Elk Point-Jefferson have been putting in the work to ready themselves for this year’s one-act season. The group of talented students are set to perform “Bobby Wilson Can Eat His Own Face” by Don Zolidis.

Dakota Valley Panther girls stay undefeated

The Panther girls took their undefeated record to Hartford for a game versus the Trojans of West Central (WC) on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Into the 2nd quarter, with WC playing some zone defense, the Panthers looked strong and led 22-12.

Shutouts keep Metros on top

Sioux City Metros Junior Varsity added another shutout to their season with a score of 9-0 against the Boji Mammoths on January 16th. Dakota Valley Sophomore Jack Colligan buried one of Metros’ 53 shots on goal. Back-to-back shutouts against the Fremont Flyers that same weekend, gave JV 21 wins on the season with just one loss. Panthers go up against strong competition at triangular

Lots of wrestling was had when Dakota Valley traveled to Colton, South Dakota for an away triangular versus Tri-Valley (TV) and Madison. The battles occurred on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. No team victories were earned, but DV showed prowess on the mat.
