Pioneer Fun at Adams

Children ages 8-10 years old enjoyed three days of fun at the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve on June 13-15. The camp was called Pioneer Fun and ran from 9:30 a.m.

Dakota Valley School board reviews various plans

Being in between the 2023 and 2024 school years, Dakota Valley’s School Board took time at the June 12 meeting to review various plan before the upcoming school year. The first plan reviewed was the Special Education Comprehensive Plan.

County begins budget discussions

The Union County Board of County Commissioners spent a majority of their meeting June 13 listening to various department’s 2024 budget requests. In between those appointments, the commissioners discussed other business.

Buenger makes top 25 in the State A Girls Golf Tournament

Madison Buenger competed in the State A Girls Golf Tournament June 5 and 6 in Rapid City. She represented Elk Point-Jefferson well on the Meadowbrook Golf Course, coming home with a 25th place _nish and making the Top 25 medals.

South Dakota high school Athletes participate in State Trap Meet

South Dakota – High school athletes and teams representing schools from across the state scheduled to participate at 2023 South Dakota State High School Clay Target League State Tournament in June. The SDSHSCTL Trap Shooting State Tournament was held at the Aberdeen Gun Club June 10-11.

All-State teams

The South Dakota Softball Coaches Association voted on the 2023 All-State teams. In Class A, Dakota Valley’s Logan Miller was named as an in_elder and Elk Point-Jefferson’s Josie Curry was recognized as an in_elder under honorable mention. Elk Point-Jefferson’s Sophia Giorgio was recognized as an out_eld under honorable mention.

Thermo Bond announces new CEO

Thermo Bond, a privately held company headquartered in Elk Point, SD, announced the appointment of Bill Riley as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer effective June 1, 2023. Riley is a highly accomplished executive, boasting a remarkable track record of over three decades in high level accounting and finance.

Tyson to terminate jobs

Tyson Foods shared, in a press release, they will be terminating 262 corporate employees who were working at the Dakota Dunes location. Those in the corporate positions were offered the opportunity to keep their jobs if they relocated to Springdale, AK. The employees being terminated at the end of July chose not to relocate.
