Brule Go-Getters 4-H Club kick off year with service

The Brule Go-Getters 4-H Club started its new year with a new slate of officers and a renewed commitment to community service. Keely Steinbrecher was elected president, joined by Amelia Mannon as vice president, Tyson Freeman as secretary, Addilyn Barker as treasurer, Naomi Handshaker as photographer and Jamarius McBride as chaplain.
Wendling wins Siouxland Senior Player of the Year

Golf is a sport that can bring joy, camaraderie, relief, frustration and a strong competitive spirit. For Jefferson resident Joshua Wendling golf also provides connection with others and a multitude of memories. Golf has made a mark on Wendling’s life from his teenage years to as recently as October 5, 2025 when he won the Jividen Cup, at Landmand Golf Course, in Homer, Nebraska. The victory secured Wendling the title of Siouxland Senior Player of the Year for 2025. It also highlighted how golf has been an incredible constant for him.
Coronation to kickoff: EPJ wraps homecoming

Homecoming was a total success for Elk Point-Jefferson as students, teachers, staff and the community encountered fun events from coronation, on September 29, to the formal dance on October 4, 2025. For this year’s homecoming theme the Huskies chose “Once Upon a Homecoming”.
Dakota Valley golf surges into postseason with top-20 sweep

September golf was sweet for the Panther boys team as they conquered the Sioux City North Quad meet and then regionals a few days later. Two Rivers Golf Course, in Dakota Dunes, was the host on Thursday, September 25, 2025 as Siouxland schools came together for a final meet prior to the Panthers heading to Vermillion for regional play on September 29, 2025.
Hanson celebrates 100 years of life, love and legacy

Family, friends and fellow club members gathered throughout October to celebrate a milestone few reach: Gladys Hanson’s 100th birthday. Born Oct. 5, 1925, Hanson was honored by the Woman’s Wednesday Club on Oct. 1 and again by her family on her birthday with an open house at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elk Point. Festivities continued with cake at Wel-Life Assisted Living and a Halloween party planned in her honor on Oct. 12.

Panthers challenge top foes in two‑game stretch

The 1st game in a busy basketball week for the Panther girls was on January 20, 2026 versus Lennox. It was a home contest and a match-up against a top ranked regional and conference opponent. Down 0-7 early, Dakota Valley broke past the Orioles and their full court pressure to garner a hoop.

Big turnout for EPJ youth wrestling meet

Approximately 200 youth wrestlers were in Elk Point on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The Huskies hosted their an‑nual tournament for athletes in preschool through 6th grade. Grapplers from South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska were observed in the gymnasium.

The Union County Commission on Jan. 20 approved combined election agreements, updated committee assignments and adopted a seasonal weight‑limit resolution during its regular meeting at the courthouse.

DV boys show grit, grab key win at Cedar Catholic

Three basketball games, in a week, were on the calendar for mid-January as the Panther boys varsity roster hosted West Central (WC) and then traveled to Hartington and Groton. The Trojans of WC were Dakota Valley’s 1st contest in a busy week. These two played each other in North Sioux City on January 13, 2026.

Panthers notch key wins in tough triangular

Colton, South Dakota was the destination on January 13, 2026 for the Panther varsity wrestling team. Dakota Valley was at Tri-Valley, along with Madison, for a triangular that involved a lot of great competition on the mat. Wrestling at DV has been steadily growing and it was evident in Colton as the majority of weight classes were filled for the evening’s contest.

Panther esports stacks wins with state bids in sight

With two weeks left, much of the season comes down to the final performances for the Panthers. “I’m confident we’ll have strong representation at the state tournament, supported by players who are buying into the process and veteran leaders who continue to model the standards of our program,” remarked DV esports coach Michael Oberg.
