Council discusses vandalism, donations

    Vandalism and donations were two of the top topics at the North Sioux City City Council meeting on March 18. During council input, City Administrator Eric Christensen discussed an issue with the council with the city’s parks.

    All-Conference basketball honors

    Members of the Dakota Valley Girls and Boys Basketball team were named to the DAK-XII All-Conference teams. From the girls basketball team, eighth grader Ellan Otten was named to the first team and junior Cameryn Sommervold and eighth grader Aubree Worden to the third team.

    Dakota Valley attends indoor track meets

    Indoor track was the theme of the week for the Panthers as several athletes traveled to the Dan Lennon Class A indoor meet in Vermillion on Monday, March 18 and then to Mount Marty, in Yankton, on Thursday, March 21.

    School holds second reading on use of AI

    With the ever present advancements in technology, educators need to be more aware of ways it can hinder teaching practices. The Elk Point-Jefferson School Board discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at their meeting March 11 and the incorporation of a new school policy.

    Road closure scheduled for SD Highway 46 reconstruction project near Beresford

    On April 3, 2024, SD Highway 46, from the east edge of the City of Beresford to SD Highway 11, is tentatively scheduled to close. The closure date will depend upon weather and road conditions along the project. During the closure, motorists will be directed to the signed detour route on Interstate 29, Lincoln County Highway 152, and Highway 11. Access to residences and properties adjacent to the project will be maintained for local traffic. Work to be completed during the first year of this twoyear project includes full roadway grading, replacement of three structures, interim surfacing and new signing from east of Beresford to Highway 11.

    Meet the candidates for the North Sioux City Council

    North Sioux City will see four races April 9 – one for four different seats on the City Council – Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4. In Ward 1, challenger Bob Davis goes up against incumbent Tena Carpenter.

    Bank robbed in North Sioux City

    A 44-year-old Sioux City male has been charged in the attempted robbery of a North Sioux City bank on March 12. Around 2:30 p.m., a man identified as Dennis John Manchester walked into Liberty National Bank, located at 113 Military Road, and handed the teller a note and brandished a weapon.

    WEL-Life at Elk Point celebrates 25 years

    On Thursday, March 21, WEL-Life at Elk Point is holding a community celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. in honor of their 25th anniversary. The community is welcome to join the residents and staff of WEL-Life for refreshments and strolls down memory lane at their facility located at 600 East Lincoln Street in Elk Point.
