The Huskies are excited for this year’s homecoming events. The theme for 2024 is: “Rockin with the Huskies”.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education convened for their regular meeting on September 9, 2024, at 5:30 pm in the high school study hall. The meeting was chaired by President Travis Geary, with the following members present: Tim Brewer, Noelle Jacobs, and Kyle Hanson. Superintendent Philip Schonebaum, Business Manager Heather Watterson, Principals Skyler Eriksen and Laura Throener, K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Justin Clercx, and Technology Coordinator Myles Larsen were present.

The regular meeting of the Jefferson City Council was held on September 9, 2024. With the presence of Mayor Paddy Rigg and council members Tony Boulware, Jason Casper, Mark LaFleur, John Lokhorst, Michael Stokely, and John Van Beest, along with other attendees, the meeting commenced and addressed several key matters.

The Panthers will be celebrating Homecoming on September 30-October 5, 2024. Something new this year will be the distribution of “Alumni Ribbons” to honor past graduates of Dakota Valley.

Hot temperatures were in full force on Tuesday, September 10 as the Elk Point-Jefferson cross country team ran a hilly course in Canton. Despite the heat and elevations, the Huskies ran hard and showed great effort in all of their 5,000 meter runs.

Fresh off their tournament championship, at Irene-Wakonda on September 7, the Huskies took that momentum up against West Central (WC) and came out victorious on Tuesday, September 10. Elk Point-Jefferson bested the Trojans by 3 sets to 1 in a great win.

The Huskies golf team gathered in Vermillion, on Monday, September 9th, to take on area schools at The Bluffs Golf Course for 18 holes of competition. Elk Point-Jefferson placed 5th in team scoring for the varsity golf meet at a +61.

It was Military Appreciation Night on Friday, September 13th when the Huskies hosted Winner for a home football game. The evening was full of honor and excitement as Elk Point-Jefferson knew they had a tough contest against Winner.

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) approved three SD Works loans, two Revolving Economic Development and Initiative (REDI) fund loans, and one Local Infrastructure Improvement Program (LIIP) grant at this month’s meeting.

The Women’s Wednesday Club is one of the oldest organized clubs in Elk Point and has continued as a literary club for 125 years. Preliminary work on a constitution was started in 1899 with seventeen women in the club.
