Dakota Valley attends the 2024 International HOSA Conference

    Dakota Valley had many talented students in attendance at the 2024 International HOSA Conference, in Houston, on June 26-29. The Panthers represented themselves well at the competition which is meant to offer inspiration and preparation to future healthcare leaders. Over 10,000 students, from around the globe, were on hand for the event.

    Dakota Valley Panthers 14U Regional Champions

    The Dakota Valley 14U VFW baseball team punched their ticket to state after taking top honors in the 14U Class A Region 7 bracket on July 15-16. The Panthers played their games in Beresford and took down Lennox twice to place 1st.

    Commisioners approve Christie as Chief Deputy

    The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for the regular session on July 9, 2024, at the Courthouse in Elk Point, SD. Members Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Richard Headid, and Tom Kimmel attended.

    Siouxland businesses collaborate to benefit recovery

    Local healing practitioners are partnering to bring Siouxland a relaxing evening that will include a beautiful sound bath, meditation, Reiki energy, and healing. The event is open to the community. Free will donations of any amount will be accepted at the door, or they can be sent to the Siouxland Recovery Fund.

    4th Annual EPJ XC 5k Road Race

    The 4th Annual EPJ XC 5k Road Race took place on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The 5K race started at 8:00 a.m., and the one-mile fun run/walk began at 8:15 a.m. The race featured various divisions for ages 17 to 70 and over.     Applications open for SDSU Extension 4-H Shooting Sports team

    SDSU Extension 4-H is now accepting applications to be part of the Hunting Skills team that will participate at the 2025 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships. To print off an application form, visit extension.sdstate.edu/events and search “hunting”.

    A legacy of service and leadership

    Milton Ustad passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 79. Ustad’s influence on this community was profound, as demonstrated by his seventeen and a half years of dedicated service as a Union County Commissioner.
