The North Sioux City Fire Department conducted ice rescue training on McCook Lake Saturday, Feb. 11.

Recycling center closed until March 1

An amenity provided by the City of Elk Point to its residents was closed immediately following the Elk Point City Council meeting Feb. 6. The council listened to the concerns from administration of resident’s abusing the recycling center.

Panthers paw down Tanagers, defeat Quarriers

It was a barn burner on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when the undefeated Dakota Valley boys basketball team went to Vermillion to take on the Tanagers. A vulnerable 3rd quarter had the Panthers see their 15-point lead dwindle down as the game progressed. However, DV did what they do best and came through in the clutch to leave Vermillion with their perfect record still intact.

Boys increase winning record

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies had 2 more wins – one on the road and one at home. The boys faced off against Canton Feb.

WEL-Life receives award

WEL-Life at Elk Point Assisted Living announced that Pinnacle Quality Insight presented them with a 2023 Customer Experience Award, with honors in the categories of Overall Satisfaction, Personal Care and Quality of Food. Qualifying for the Pinnacle Customer Experience Award means that WEL-Life at Elk Point has placed in the top 15 percent of care providers nationwide across a 12-month average.

Huskies have a full week of competitions

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies girls had a long week of basketball with three road games and one home game. Two of the games they played were rescheduled from January.

Bennett’s resignation accepted

Jan Bennett, a deputy with the Union County Treasurer’s Office, turned in her resignation for retirement to the Union County Board of County Commissioners Feb. 7.

Jefferson discusses dilapidated properties

The Jefferson City Council had discussions on two properties that have been demolished and are in the process of being demolished within city limits. The first property was a house at 503 Main Street.
