On Wednesday, March 1, the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors passed the _rst reading of a procedure that will provide a structure for adding new sports and _ne arts activities.

A discussion about appreciation events for high school sports of_cials led to the revelation that there have been 87 ejections of players, coaches and fans at high school sporting events this year. At the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors meeting March 1, SDHSAA Assistant Executive Director Randy Soma said there have been 87 ejections this year compared to 30 last year.

Because of the growth in the number of participants, it has been proposed that a separate girls’ wrestling tournament be held next year. Currently the state wrestling tournament includes boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Dakota Valley middle school students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th will perform “The One-Act Play Disaster” on March 13 and 14, at 7 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center. There is no cost for admission, but free will donations will be accepted.

The Southeast A.B.A.T.E. is going to hold a presentation on motorcycle safety and awareness on Saturday, March 11. The event will be held at the North Sioux City Community Center (connected to the Fire Hall) at 205 Sodrac Drive from 1 to 4 p.m.

Britton Patee, of Dakota Dunes, has been swimming ever since he could crawl. Patee comes from a family lineage of swimmers and the love and talent for the sport has taken the Bishop Heelan sophomore far.

Eight individual Husky wrestlers qualified for the state tournament held in Rapid City Feb. 23-25.

Dakota Valley’s senior night for boys basketball brought a lot of emotion and cheers for the class of 2023 players. Prior to the game, Coach Jason Kleis described what the senior boys have meant to the team and to the season as they looked to take on Lennox on Friday, Feb. 24. It was the last regular season home game and the Panthers started strong to never once relent en route to an 89-57 victory.

Four Dakota Valley wrestlers travelled to Rapid City on Feb. 23-25 to wrestle for a chance to be a state placewinner. Sophomore Jackson Boonstra was impressive on his way to a 6th place _nish in a highly competitive 145-pound weight class. Cameron Curry gained valuable experience as a 7th grader on the state stage while Gracie Delgado and McKenzie Scott both saw success past their invitation for the double elimination state tourney.

It was a tough first round region match up as the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies played Tea Area again. They had just finished the regular season a few days earlier with a loss to the Titans. Unfortunately, that didn’t change in the region game either as the Huskies fell 36-56.
