The most dreadful and tragic news family members can receive are when accidents happen. Shannon Steckelberg, wife of David Steckelberg, received devestating news about her father Dave Steeneck at the beginning of August.

Pastor Rick Andrus, the new pastor at the Elk Point United Parish, ends every sermon with the same motivational reminder, “The journey starts now.” Because we tend to procrastinate, he urges those listening to delay no longer.

Homecoming Royalty Elk Point-Jefferson’s homecoming is quickly approaching. The names of the 2023 Homecoming Court have been released in preparation of the weeklong events.

Many individual medals plus team hardware was earned by the Panther cross country team on Tuesday, Aug. 29 for the Dakota Valley Invite at the Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve.

Two competitive matches were in store for the Panther boys soccer team as the roster travelled to Vermillion on Aug. 31 and hosted Groton Area on Sept. 1. Both contests showed growth from the young Dakota Valley squad.

A busy week was had by the Dakota Valley girls soccer team as they travelled to Hartford, SD to face West Central on Tuesday, Aug. 29 and then were at home a few days later to take on the Groton Area Tigers.

The Spring Creek Country Club was the host site for Sioux Falls Christian’s (SFC) boys golf meet on Tuesday, Aug. 29 and Dakota Valley brought home 2nd place as a team.

Aiden Keenan participated in the South Dakota High School Honor Choir camp held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Aiden auditioned to earn a position as a bass singer at the 49th annual camp. He joined over 100+ fellow junior and senior choir members from across the state of South Dakota. The participants were instructed by Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Kentucky. At the end of the week-long camp participants presented a concert at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD on Aug. 4, 2023. Keenan is a junior at Dakota Valley High School instructed by Kari Wilmes.

Things are always going on at the North Sioux City Community Library. In the month of September, a crochet class is being held on Sept. 6 and 20 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Adult Craft night will be held Sept. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 will be a fun-_lled day with Beginner LEGOs at 10:30 a.m. and Book Club at 6 p.m. Storytime begins on Sept. 13 and 14 at 10:30 a.m. After Sept. 13, storytime will be held every Wednesday and Thursday.
