The Panther volleyball team went to work as a full week of matches met them on Sept. 19, 21 and 23.

The 2023-24 Annual Budget was approved at the Dakota Valley School Board’s meeting Sept. 11. The tax levies were determined as follows: AG – $1.320 per $1,000; Owner-Occupied – $2.954 per $1,000; NA/Utilities – $6.113 per $1,000 and Total Valuation – $1.500 per $1,000. By Beth Hutcheson times1reporter@gmail.com The first reading for the reformation of the Parks and Recreation Board was held at the North Sioux City City Council meeting Sept. 18. Administration presented revisions to the city’s current ordinance. In the revision, it struck out many areas and added some clarifications. Some areas within the ordinance were struck out completely that included, recommendations by resolution, annual report and authority. The board makeup will consist of five members with one alternate member with one board member being from the business community. All members will be approved by the city council.

The saying “busy as a bee” can be taken literally by former Dakota Valley guidance counselor Phil Breed who has not slowed down since retiring at the end of the 2023 school year. In addition to being the assistant cross country coach still at DV, Breed has also amped up his beekeeping activity. Working with bees takes place at Breed’s farm south of Beresford and also extends to the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve in North Sioux City.

The runners of Elk Point-Jef ferson hit the road during Homecoming week to visit Swan Lake at the Viborg-Hurley Invite Sept. 11 and Freeman for the Flyer Invite Sept.

The Orioles flew in Sept. 12, snagged a victory and flew back home.

The Elk Point-Jefferson golfers had a big Homecoming week with two home matches and taking first in one of the matches. On Sept.

“It was a tale of two halves,” described head coach Jake Terry after Friday night’s Homecoming win over Mc-Cook Central/Montrose. “First half we looked like a team that hadn’t played a game in two weeks. We really cleaned some things up in the second half and the guys did a great job. 100 percent credit to them coming out after halftime and playing up to their potential.”
