North Sioux City holds Trunk or Treat inside PD station

Due to cool temperatures the trunk or treat event for North Sioux City, on Oct. 29, was moved inside the police station building. That did not stop the crowds and costumes. Many congregated from 4 to 6 p.m. to visit the various stations decorated in the spirit of Halloween. Employees of North Sioux City, the local library, Peoples Bank, Taco Johns, the fire department/EMS services and more handed out candy at the event which had a long line the entire time.

State Champs for 14 years straight

Another dynamic Dakota Valley dance season concluded on Friday, Oct. 20 and it did so in fantastic fashion. For the 14th consecutive year the Panthers were crowned South Dakota Class A Grand Champions.

EPJ Huskies advance on to quarterfinal round

For the first time since 2008, the Groton Area Tigers challenged the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on the football field. In the first round of playoffs, Groton Area played at EPJ on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.

Southeast Farmers donates

Recently, Southeast Farmers Coop donated $5,000 to the Union County Food Pantry. The money came from a matching funds opportunity through Co-Bank. Southeast Farmers can submit four applications a year for up to $2,500 and then match the funds when they receive the approval.

Halloween is a time when people are excited for scary movies, costumes and stories. Everything from decorations to local haunts are talked about.

Spooky houses pop up for Halloween

Every October, the students and staff of Dakota Valley look forward to seeing the “spooky house” on Northshore Drive. It has become a staple to signify Halloween and autumn are coming to the area. The multiple horror story characters on the balcony, along with hanging skeletons and mock tombstones are known for getting neighbors and all who pass by into the Halloween spirit.

Jefferson Trunk or Treat fundraiser

A fundraising event for park equipment for Tower Park in Jefferson will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the park. Events include a trunk or treat from 1 to 4 p.m., zombie walk at 4 p.m., a pork and chili feed, zombie face painting and pumpkin painting.

Trick or Treat times - Elk Point/Jefferson

With Halloween approaching, it’s nice to know where children can participate for trick or treating throughout town. In Jefferson, trick or treating will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
