    Shorma to seek re-election to South Dakota House

    William “Bill” Shorma is excited to announce his 2024 bid for re-election to District 17 House of Representatives. Shorma and his wife Marcie live in Dakota Dunes, and are involved in the Southern Union County communities and Clay County towns as well.

    School board continues facilities discussion

    The Elk Point-Jefferson School Board heard an update on the district’s goals and from the building committee at their last meeting Nov. 13.

    Donations benefit local veterans

    Unrivaled Traditions Outdoors (UTO) has been providing various opportunities for local veterans since its inception in 2018. Recently, the American Legion Post 134 and the VFW each donated $500 to UTO to help sponsor three local veterans on a waterfowl hunting experience.

    There is no lack of work in the agricultural industry, whether its farming corn and soybeans, feeding animals or fixing equipment around the farm. For one local Elk Point-Jefferson senior, he’s learning a different aspect of agriculture – the cleaning of small grain and seed and all that it entails.

    Callaghan named December Rotary Club Student of the Month

    Renae Callaghan, a senior at Bishop Heelan High School, has been selected as the December 2023 Rotary Club Student of the Month. She will be honored during the Rotary Club meeting on Monday, Dec. 4, 12 p.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Community Room.

    Student groups help rake lawns

    The Dakota Valley junior high student council members and 8th graders in National Junior Honor Society helped out the community by raking up four residential yards on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
