Dial wins technical drafting competition

Caden Dial, a senior at Dakota Valley High School, competed in the Technical Drafting competition at the South Dakota SkillsUSA State Conference out in Rapid City this past week. The competition was held at Western Dakota Tech. Dial has won this competition now for two years. By winning this competition, Dial will be headed to the national championships in Atlanta this summer. Technical Drafting is a competition where competitors are given a model and have to replicate it within a drafting software. Dial uses Inventor which is a 3D mechanical drafting software. He created the model, and then imported that into a drawing with all appropriate dimensions and tolerances.
Bruns has incredible high school sports career

Isaac Bruns, of Wynstone in Jefferson, SD, is having an incredible senior year of high school. This past March he helped lead the Dakota Valley varsity boys basketball team to back-to-back state championships and two consecutive undefeated seasons. While these feats alone are memorable and amazing, Bruns also recently received an honor never held before by a DV student athlete. He was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Player of the Year from South Dakota for basketball.
Girls finish 6th, boys 9th at Titan Invite

On Tuesday, April 11 the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies Track teams participated in the Titan Track Invitational. This event took place at two facilities, with throws and horizontal jumps taking place in Vermillion, and the running events and vertical jumps taking place at the home facility in Tea Area.
The story behind the four-season garage

During the summer of 2020 one Elk Point-Jefferson student spent her time outdoors not playing sports, but painting. Not just any type of painting, but a four seasons tree on a garage.
North Sioux City EMS holds simulation training

The North Sioux City Fire and Ambulance departments held a training at the North Sioux City Community Center April 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. There were 18 in attendance for the four-hour training, including EMTs, paramedics, firefighters and individuals who were interested.

Dakota Valley Panthers wrestle in youth tourney

Over 150 youth wrestlers, including over a dozen from Dakota Valley, were in Elk Point on Sunday, Jan. 21 for the EPJ Youth Wrestling Tournament. It was a round robin format with multiple weight classes and age divisions. Boys and girls from preschool through grade school showed strength and grit on the mats throughout the entire event.

Dell Rapids and Madison were the opponents that the Panther wrestling team faced on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at an away triangular. The match versus the Quarriers was close as DV fell in team scoring by just 3 points. The Bulldogs were strong and big winners on the night as DV fell to them 8-70 in team scoring.

Week 5 for Dakota Valley Esports was hectic as many scheduling changes occurred due to winter weather and other schools having the day off in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Despite the conflicts, multiple victories were garnered by the Panthers.

Winter weather delayed the Panther girls original basketball match-up versus the West Central Trojans. Both teams were supposed to square off on Jan. 9, but Mother Nature had other ideas. For the rescheduled date, it was a close 1st half on Monday, Jan 15. After 2 tight quarters the Panthers led 31-27.

DV BBB accomplishes huge feat with winning streak

The Dakota Valley boys basketball team have accomplished a feat for the record books with their 62-game winning streak. It is a record for Class A South Dakota and one that no other school, in the local area or the country, can even currently come close to touching.

EPJ School District becomes Unified Champion School

Thanks to the dedication of one Elk Point-Jefferson Teacher and the help of the Superintendent and Activiites Director, the school district is now considered to be a Unified Champion School. Before becoming a Unified Champion School, Cassandra Schmith helped bring back Elk Point-Jefferson Special Olympics.
