It was a great week for the Lady Huskies as they competed against two Dakota XII Conference foes and came out on top. The first matchup was against Lennox on Jan.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies travelled to Sioux Valley Public School in Volga, SD to partake in the Big East/LLC Tournament. Half of the Huskies who participated had podium finishes and racked up 72.5 points for the team to finish 8th out of 14 teams.

Justin Hogan, nephew of Sherri (Taylor) and Orelous Bousquet and the cousin of Sydney and Aubrey Bousquest, was diagnosed with ALS in May 2022. ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control and the disease worsens with time.

It was a successful day of theater for the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies as they took in high scores at the regional competition on Tuesday, Jan. 23 to advance to state. Also competing that day were: Beresford, Vermillion and Dakota Valley.

Dakota Valley was the host site for this year’s One Act Regional competition on Tuesday, Jan. 23r The Panthers, as well as thespians from Beresford, Elk-Point Jefferson and Vermillion spent the day performing and listening to critiques.

A typographical error was noticed at the beginning of the North Sioux City City Council meeting in which the meeting date stated Jan. 8 instead of Jan. 22. After a brief discussion on open meeting laws and the advice of City Attorney Darrell Jesse, the council approved the agenda with an amendment to the date to reflect Jan. 22. Since the council had approved moving the meeting dates and had posted the changes in their legal minutes, Jesse felt the typographical error wasn’t enough to violate South Dakota Open Meeting Laws.
