County approves provisional budget, raises jail fees

After long discussions, the Union County Board of County Commissioners approved the provisional budget at their meeting July 26. The approved provisional budget shows a General Fund balance of $11.7 million. Most everything requested in every department head’s budget was approved. Small changes can still be made to the budget until September.

DV Awards Night

The Dakota Valley 2022 Seniors celebrated awards night May 9. Awards were presented by many people, but mainly by High School Principal Erik Sommervold, School Counselor Heather Welch and Activities Director Bill Clements. Altogether, the senior class was awarded $1.7 million in scholarships.

Rising inflationary pressure

June’s inflation report showed a 9.1 percent increase from a year ago. At this point, most of us are seeing the higher prices for almost everything we purchase. These prices are making it harder for individuals and families to make ends meet and have created dilemmas for construction projects, police departments and school districts.
