Heirigs offered position as Health Nurse

After about 40 minutes of conducting interviews for the Community Health Nurse position on Feb. 21, the Union County Board of County Commissioners moved to offer Karley Heirigs the position. If she accepts, she would make $1,394.60 per month.

Orioles fly over Panthers in regional game

The Panther girls basketball team played their _nal game versus the Lennox Orioles in a tough _rst round regional contest. Dakota Valley (DV) would enter the game as the #6 seed while the Orioles would be ranked #3.

DV art students earn honors

High school art students at Dakota Valley are seeing success with their craft in 2023 as several Panther artists earned honors for their works at various shows and competitions in February. Junior Mike Bourne, who is in the DV Art Club, submitted artwork to Buena Vista University (BVU) after hearing about the opportunity from art teacher Demi Harlan.

Dakota Valley Debate team competes at Harrisburg

The Dakota Valley High School debate team competed at Harrisburg High School on Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18 in a tough varsity meet. The twoday contest was a precursor for going on to nationals. Although, Dakota Valley did not qualify any of their four competing teams it was a great event for all.

Metros earn spot in year-end tournament with 4th place rankings

The Sioux City Metros hosted Nebraska’s Fremont Flyers Friday, Feb. 23. The JV squad took a 9-1 win while Varsity landed a 7-1 victory. Saturday, the Metros took to the road to compete against the number one team in the Midwest High School Hockey League (MHSHL), the Kansas City Jets. After a score of 1-2 on Saturday, JV lost their _nal game of the season on Sunday in a shootout with a _nal score…

Dunes CID discusses increases, Emerald Ash Borer

The Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors opened their Feb. 21 meeting with a public hearing on their water and sewer ordinance rate increases. There was no one in attendance, so the board approved the second readings of the two ordinances. After 20 days, the ordinances will go into effect and be applied for the March billing.

Council hears about Sioux Point Road closure

RP Constructors' schedule shows Sioux Point Road will be closing on March 6. Signs were to be placed Feb. 27 to notify travellers of the upcoming detour and road closure. The closure needed in order to install utilities while the ground water level is low.

Three departments battle house fire
