Wendling wins Siouxland Senior Player of the Year

    Golf is a sport that can bring joy, camaraderie, relief, frustration and a strong competitive spirit. For Jefferson resident Joshua Wendling golf also provides connection with others and a multitude of memories. Golf has made a mark on Wendling’s life from his teenage years to as recently as October 5, 2025 when he won the Jividen Cup, at Landmand Golf Course, in Homer, Nebraska. The victory secured Wendling the title of Siouxland Senior Player of the Year for 2025. It also highlighted how golf has been an incredible constant for him.

    Coronation to kickoff: EPJ wraps homecoming

    Homecoming was a total success for Elk Point-Jefferson as students, teachers, staff and the community encountered fun events from coronation, on September 29, to the formal dance on October 4, 2025. For this year’s homecoming theme the Huskies chose “Once Upon a Homecoming”.

    Dakota Valley golf surges into postseason with top-20 sweep

    September golf was sweet for the Panther boys team as they conquered the Sioux City North Quad meet and then regionals a few days later. Two Rivers Golf Course, in Dakota Dunes, was the host on Thursday, September 25, 2025 as Siouxland schools came together for a final meet prior to the Panthers heading to Vermillion for regional play on September 29, 2025.

    Hanson celebrates 100 years of life, love and legacy

    Family, friends and fellow club members gathered throughout October to celebrate a milestone few reach: Gladys Hanson’s 100th birthday. Born Oct. 5, 1925, Hanson was honored by the Woman’s Wednesday Club on Oct. 1 and again by her family on her birthday with an open house at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elk Point. Festivities continued with cake at Wel-Life Assisted Living and a Halloween party planned in her honor on Oct. 12.

    Dancers claim wins, prep for state

    Class AA competitions were on the docket for dancers at Dakota Valley as they traveled to bigger schools in order to push themselves in the homestretch of the season. The roster closed out September and started October with a ton of accolades. The Panthers are currently at the top of their division in Class A for South Dakota. The same can be written for Class AA which includes programs with an enrollment much higher than DV’s.

    Panther band earns runner-up at Watchdog Festival

    The Panther band department was in Beresford, SD on Friday, September 25, 2025. Band members in middle school and high school were competing in the Watchdog Marching Festival and performed well.

    DV boys soccer finishes season, builds for future

    Two tough contests recently marked the end of the regular season for the Dakota Valley boys soccer team. Travel to central South Dakota took place on Monday, September 29, 2025 when the Panthers faced the Groton Area Tigers. It was a long bus ride for DV and they were going up against a strong Groton squad with home field advantage.

    Girls soccer drop road match, crush Vermillion

    The regular season came to a close for the Panther girls soccer team, but strong play throughout the fall has them positioned well for the postseason. A long road trip to Groton was scheduled for Dakota Valley on Monday, September 29, 2025 and an aggressive game was observed.

    DVXC earns medals, team honors at fall meets

    The Panthers competed well at The Pointe Golf Course on Monday, September 29, 2025. The varsity girls team brought home 3rd place overall and the boys varsity roster claimed 4th. Individually it was sophomore Jamison Gould securing a gold medal for Dakota Valley (DV) with his impressive 5K time of 16:53.01.

    County approves budget boost, jail meals and levee talks

    The Union County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Sept. 30 at the courthouse in Elk Point, addressing a full agenda that included infrastructure improvements, public safety upgrades, planning and zoning developments, and budget actions.
