August Friends Feast

The aroma of simmering spaghetti sauce will welcome guests to Immanuel Lutheran Church on Monday, Aug. 11, as the Elk Point Chamber of Commerce prepares to host the August Friends Feast community meal. From 5:30 to 7 p.m., neighbors, families, and friends will gather for a warm plate of spaghetti, dessert, and shared conversation— all free of charge.

Schmidt steps in: new panther-in-chief

A new face will be in the halls at Dakota Valley this upcoming school year as Garrett Schmidt steps into his role as superintendent for the Panthers. As they settle into the area, Schmidt is excited and thrilled to be at DV as is his wife and three children.

Walk-off wonders: Panthers punch ticket to State

The Panther’s senior legion baseball team showed up for regionals in a big way to advance to the South Dakota 2025 Class “B” Senior American Legion Baseball State Championship Tournament. To get there, Dakota Valley garnered wins on each day of regional play from July 21-23, 2025.

County greenlights upgrades, road easement

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular meeting on July 22, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at the courthouse in Elk Point. Commissioners Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Peggy Ustad, Bob Ballard, and Tom Kimmel were present.

NSC approves bypass

The North Sioux City Commission met Monday evening in City Hall, with Mayor Chris Bogenrief presiding over Commissioners Lynn Hoffman, Jessica Strain, and Vincent Tucker. Commissioner Julie Burhoop was absent. Also in attendance were City Administrator Jeff Dooley, Finance Officer Amy Lilly, and City Attorney Sarah Kleber.

4-Hers prepare for Union County Fair
