The proposed rate increases for water at the November meeting of the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors was approved at the Dec. 19 meeting.

The North Sioux City City Council was presented with six ordinances and seven resolutions at their last meeting of 2022 on Dec. 19.

The Huskies boys took on Sioux Falls Christian Dec. 14 and lost 51-69 in a tough battle. A large halftime lead of 22-39 is where the Huskies fell. In the 2nd half, the Huskies were only 1 basket down from tieing the quarter scores.

Elk Point-Jefferson hosted it’s first wrestling meet of the winter sports season Dec. 13 with a triangular against Vermillion and Dakota Valley.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies travelled to Parker Dec. 15 to snag some Pheasants for supper. The Huskies bared their teeth and kept the Pheasants from scoring above 10 points in 3 out of 4 quarters and allowed 12 points in the 4th. The girls came away with a 41-32 win.

A special council meeting was called for the City of Elk Point to finish business before the end of the year. Employee raises were determined and approved by the council.

All students in the Elk Point-Jefferson School District were the recipients of new shoes thanks to a local church. Beacon Church in Elk Point held a fundraising to raise money to donate 700 pairs of shoes to the students of Elk Point-Jefferson.

With the recent announcement of the closure of Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point and the auction of the building and property, the Elk Point-Jefferson School Board discussed looking at purchasing the property at their meeting Dec. 12.

Terri Chicoine, the Elk Point-Jefferson Business Manager, has seen a lot of changes throughout her years of employment with the district, including technology changes and the reorganization of the district.

Union County’s elected officials were approved for a raise at the Union County Board of County Commission meeting Dec. 13. As of next year, elected officials will see an increase of $2 per hour, except Union County State’s Attorney Jerry Miller who is receiving a $7,000 raise.
