Santa, cookies, cocoa at the library

Despite windy winter weather a lot of fun was had at the North Sioux City library for their “Cookies & Cocoa at the Library” event. Santa Claus was the guest of honor as he made an appearance to talk with all of the good little boys and girls in the library. He handed out candy canes and indoor snowballs to many, and even read a story to the crowd.

Days off replace early outs

Due to changes in the 2023 school calendar, Dakota Valley students will now have two more days off from school instead of early outs. The Dakota Valley School Board made the decision at their meeting Dec. 12. The early out days marked for March 6 and April 3, 2023 were changed from early outs to no school days.

Eckho_: A Tradition of Winter Holiday Programs

It wouldn’t be the holidays without a children’s music program, and Dakota Valley is spoiled when it comes to seeing students in kindergarten through 3rd grade perform for a crowd in December. This is all thanks to Sara Eckhoff, who has been teaching music for four decades and annually puts on a festive stage show that leaves all who attend in awe.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Husky boys unleashed the beast against the Madison Bulldogs, defeating them 70 to 63 Dec. 10 at home.

A new season full of new beginnings

Coming off of a 8-14 season, the Elk Point-Jefferson girls basketball team looks forward to a new season full of new beginnings. One of those being, a new head coach.

Seniors will lead the way

This year’s Elk Point-Jefferson wrestling team will be lead by many state placers and qualifiers. The team will look to Lucas Hueser and Ben Swatek who are moving up into the top 10 for all-time victories at EPJ.

Huskies aiming for a state berth

Last year, the Elk Point-Jefferson boys basketball season ended when Vermillion knocked them out in the first round of regions. This year, the Huskies, led by head coach Jeremy Otkin (fourth year), look forward to punching their ticket to the state tournament. Otkin is assisted by JV coach Zach Ronning (third year) and C-team coach Adam Timmins (first year).
