Union County holds 4-H Recognition Event

    Union County 4-H club members and leaders completed the 2022-23 club year with an annual Recognition Event on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. Congratulations to all the club members on a successful 4-H year!

    Huskies battle in wet conditions to advance to state semi-finals

    It was a cold, windy and wet contest between the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies and Tri-Valley Mustangs Thursday, Oct. 26. With the weather playing a factor for both teams, the real challenge for the athletes was to keep their footing and catch a wet pigskin. The winner of this game advanced to the semi-finals Nov. 3.

    Trunk or Treat benefits playground

    A trunk or treat was held in Jefferson, Oct. 28, as a way to help raise funds to update the City’s park equipment. Ghosts, gnomes, princesses and monsters all came to Jefferson for some treats as they walked the City’s parking lot which was filled with various vehicles all decked out in the spirit of Halloween.

    Ruhland receives National Award

    Approximately six years ago the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve designed an archery range for many to enjoy. And the accolades for the person responsible, Norb Ruhland, keep coming and coming.

    Students learn about Saints

    In preparation for All Saints Day on Nov. 1, the 6th grade religious education students at St. Teresa of Calcutta presented ‘For All These Saints’ on Oct. 25. Costumes were prepared by the Catholic Daughters, Mary Parker and Mary Grasso. Each of the students answered questions about the life of the saint they depicted. Everyone learned a lot about the life of each saint and the process of how one becomes a saint in the Catholic Church.

    EPJ attends All-State Choir

    Some of South Dakota’s most talented high school vocal students were in the Black Hills on Saturday, Oct. 28 for All State Chorus. The 2023 concert was held in Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.

    Students learn about Saints

    Religious education students from Elk Point, Jefferson and Dakota Dunes met at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Cemetery in Jefferson on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The evening consisted of a youth disciple event where confirmation students dressed as Saints and gave brief presentation to middle schoolers and adults walking around in small groups. The fun and informative church activity was done to coincide with this year’s All Saints Day. It ran from approximately 7:30 to 9 p.m. with multiple volunteers on-hand.
