Pack the Dome: Huskies head to state championship

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies did it again. It was a match-up of last year’s state tournament game in Winner on Friday, Nov. 3 as the Huskies challenged the undefeated Warriors on their home field. The long drive didn’t hinder the Huskies though as they fought to keep their state run alive.

November 11 is an occasion to honor veterans who have served in war on behalf of the United States. The selfless duty of others allows America to be a land full of freedom. Tom Jacobs, of McCook Lake, knows this more than many as his duty of military service took him to Vietnam during wartime.

Huskies state run ends in second round of region play

It wasn’t a trick, but all treats for the Huskies as they once again defeated the Vermillion Tanagers on Oct. 31. Although, this time, the defeat ended the season for the Tanagers and advanced the Huskies further in the Region 4A bracket.

Saving every life, one animal at a time

The Siouxland Humane Society (SHS) has received national recognition from the Best Friends Animal Society. A plaque was awarded for achieving a save rate of over 90 percent for year 2022, naming the SHS a no-kill shelter.

Rounds’ Staff to Visit Elk Point

Staff from the office of U.S. Senator Mike Rounds will be conducting outreach in the community of Elk Point to assist residents with any issues they may have with federal agencies.

Communication tower project bid awarded

The bid for Union County’s new communication tower and generator project was awarded Oct. 31. The Union County Board of County Commissioners awarded the $337,712.37 bid to One Way Wireless Construction out of Shakopee, MN. The company has until July 2024 to complete the project.
