DV goes undefeated wins Class A title

    School history was made by Dakota Valley as they went undefeated at the Class A state softball tournament on June 4-6, 2026. The Panthers claimed a championship title for the 1st time since softball became a sanctioned high school sport, in 2023, in South Dakota. Quality preparation, strong senior class leadership and incredible team chemistry helped aid Dakota Valley (DV) on their way to being crowned the 2026 Class A softball champions in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

    EPJ upsets top seeds to claim state runner‑up

    The Husky softball team turned their Class A state softball tournament into an epic Cinderella story on June 4-6, 2026. They entered the bracket as a #8 seed and captured the Class A runnerup trophy amongst fierce competition. Competing in Aberdeen, South Dakota, over the course of 3 days, Elk Point-Jefferson (EPJ) played some of their best softball to date.

    Union County athletes delivered standout performances at the 2026 South Dakota State High School Clay Target League Trap Tournament, held June 6, with competitors from Elk Point High School and Dakota Valley High School earning top‑three finishes and multiple strong showings across divisions.

    Betsworth is state champion, Panthers earn runner‑up

    An individual state champion and runner-up team finish was in store for the Dakota Valley girls golf team at the Class A golf meet on June 1-2, 2026. Katie Betsworth performed on the links, as she has done all season, to take the 2026 Class A title with an incredible score of 138. This had her at -2 under par over the course of 2 rounds.

    Two Elk Point residents whose lives have been shaped by can‑cer will receive support from this year’s Fore the Cure fundraising efforts, as the organization pre‑pares for its ninth annual ladies golf tournament and silent auc‑tion on June 19.

    EP seeks funding for rural water connection

    The Elk Point City Council on June 1 ap‑proved a resolution to seek up to $730,000 in fi‑nancial assistance for the city’s planned connection to the Clay Rural Wa‑ter System, moving for‑ward a major infrastruc‑ture project aimed at strengthening long‑term water service.
