Five baseball games in 3 days took the Dakota Valley Legion baseball squad to a record of 4-1 to start their season. They played Tea Post 266 Tin Caps on Thursday, June 6 for their 1st win and then went 1-1 on Friday, June 7. Two close games equaled 2 Panther victories on Saturday, June 8.

The best golfers in South Dakota, for Class A, met up in Sioux Falls on June 3 and June 4 to take part in the 2024 state golf meet. Dakota Valley’s Katie Betsworth, Claire Wiebelhaus and Addicyn Sailer were among some of the finest to compete in the 2-day event at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.

Isabel Trobaugh is a truly amazing, remarkable, inspirational woman who has forged the way for the citizens of Elk Point, SD, and Siouxland. She leads by her example, integrity, determination, hard work ethic, honesty, and humility. Isabel was a dedicated wife to Roy for 66 years and is a loving mother to Steve and Kathy.

Discussions were held on the former Jefferson High School property, especially that of the old gymnasium. The City Council was waiting to hear from Building Inspector Gary Roan if the structure could be saved and utilized instead of being torn down. Roan had a report ready for the council at their meeting June 3 and stated upon his inspection or review of the Engineer’s report, he agreed the gymnasium could be saved as long as the proposal from RISE Structural Associates, Inc. was followed.

The Union Clay and Yankton Tri-County Horse Show will be held June 25th starting at 9 a.m. at Chuck Donnely Family Farms in rural Elk Point. There will be 33 classes throughout the day with 4-H members showcasing horsemanship, initiative, responsibility and safety skills.

It was a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 4 for the Senior Legion Huskies as Elk Point-Jefferson played two 7-inning ball games against Harrisburg. Both were good contests that led to a pair of wins for EPJ.

Aberdeen played host for the 2nd consecutive year of South Dakota State Softball Tournament action and Dakota Valley was there for 3 days of games from May 30-June 1. It was a successful run for the Panthers as they closed their season with a winning record and brought home the 5th place consolation champion trophy.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies had a strong showing at the SoDak 16 qualifier game in May to earn a return visit to the 2nd annual sanctioned South Dakota softball tournament. All games, for all classes in South Dakota, were held in Aberdeen.

McCook Lake resident and Vietnam veteran Tom Jacobs took a trip to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 21, and it was a memorable one. Jacobs was one of over 80 veterans on the Midwest Honor Flight that left the Sioux Falls Regional Airport and flew to Reagan National Airport for a full day of remembrance and recognition.
