Samuel Hatton, 89, of Vermillion, SD passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center. Samuel B. Hatton, “S.B.” or “B,” was born on February 13, 1934, the youngest of ten children born to David and Russie Hatton, of Talihina, OK. There, he learned his lifelong love of hunting and fishing under the tutelage of his beloved mother, and his great sense of caring for others from his older brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and lifelong friends, who took care of him in the years after his mother’s death. In high school, Sam was an enthusiastic member and president of his local FFA (Future Farmers of America) and a talented ball player, winning recognition, particularly, as a fine running back and passer in the game of football.

LaVonne (Corio) Baker LaVonne (Corio) Baker (formerly of Jefferson, SD), mother, teacher, people person, animal lover, magazine collector (she never had time to read them), square dancer, baker extraordinaire, and lover of travel, left us on July 2, 2023 at Bickford Assisted Living of Urbandale IA, surviving years of Alzheimer’s. She leaves behind a legacy of a 40-year teaching career that touched so many students lives in two states; family; many good friends (and some she had just met in the checkout lane); and the happy memories for all those who knew and loved her.
