The family of Steven Rosenbaum is saddened to announce is sudden passing of him and his two beloved dogs, Sneak and Buddy, on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the age of 63. Steve was the second child born to Richard and Marlene Rosenbaum on July 3, 1960 in Canton, SD.

Victor Rene Blanchard was born October 3, 1936 on the family farm southeast of Jefferson, SD to Victor and Adwilda Blanchard. He was raised in Jefferson and attended St. Peter’s Catholic School and graduated from Jefferson High School. He left for the service and was called home to help on the farm after his father had a shelling accident.

Paula Chicoine passed away from Alzheimer’s in Hospice at Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls, SD on October 15, 2023. A viewing with family present will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home, 57th & MN, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral mass will be Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2109 S. 5th Ave., Sioux Falls. Lunch will be served after the funeral. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.

Rita Barnett, age 95, of Brookings passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas More Parish with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Eidsness Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Evelyn Lorrene Hanson, 100, of Elk Point passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.

Lloyd Douglas “Babe” Saugstad was born Sept. 5, 1942 to Lloyd and Alice (Jervik) Saugstad in Beresford, SD. He passed away peacefully Sept. 29, 2023 at Sanford Health-Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Edward Patrick Welch, 72, of Elk Point, SD, passed away on Sept. 18, 2023 at Unity Point – St.

Gwen Hall passed away, surrounded by family, on August 23, 2023 after an extended illness. On June 9, 2017, Gwen received a lifesaving double lung transplant and was thankful for every breath she took with that gift. This gift gave her time with her family and allowed her to watch her grandkids grow up. Gwen’s last wish is to have everyone complete their organ donor registration and make their wishes known to their families. Gwen was born Sept. 20, 1953, in Quonset Point, RI to Kenneth and Ruth Bartling. Gwen and her four sisters were raised on the family farm in rural Hooper, NE where they still farm today. Gwen married Rich Hall on July 20, 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Hooper, not far from the family farm. Gwen and Rich were blessed with three daughters – Kendra, Kelly and Kacie.

Ronald D. Grangaard, 78, of Elk Point, SD passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on August 18, 2023.

Ronald Eugene Ewing, 48, of Elk Point, SD passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 7, 2023 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
