Elk Point-Jefferson Track, Field athletes place at Regions

On Thursday, May 18, the EPJ Huskies Boys and Girls Track teams participated in the Region 4A Track Meet in Tea. This ‘last chance’ meet is an opportunity to qualify for the State Track Meet. With eight teams, including Dakota Valley, Tea Area, Canton, Lennox, Vermillion, Parker, Beresford, and Elk Point-Jefferson, the Region 4A meet is always a competitive day.

Panthers head to state baseball tournament

It will be four consecutive state tournament appearances for the Dakota Valley baseball team as they travel to Sioux Falls on May 29 and 30 for their shot at the Class B title. The Panthers finished as runner-ups in 2019 and 2022 at state. They earned 3rd place in 2021 and no state tournament was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Childhood passion lead to Best Dentist in Siouxland award

Jenny Smith could be found in the summer time playing dentist with her cousins. That passion led into her adulthood and has been shown through the awards she’s received the last two years in a row.

Elk Point-Jefferson Boys fall short in region tournament

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies fought hard this last week, playing four games total – two before regions and two on Sunday, May 21 in Super-Regional play. The first game for the week saw the Huskies facing the Vermillion Tanagers May 16.

Bulldogs nip Huskies

In a game of dog versus dog, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies travelled to Madison to take on the Bulldogs Tuesday, May 16. The travel turned out to be detrimental to the Huskies as they couldn’t get into the swing of things.

Elaine Peacock and Friends to perform in Gayville

Gayville Hall, the old-time music hall, is located in Gayville, SD, will present “Elaine Peacock & Friends,” a two-hour musical extravaganza. The show, to be held Saturday, May 27, at 7 p.m., is a patriotic musical salute to Memorial Day.

Every donation counts

Thanks to the United States Postal Service and the local Girl Scouts, the Elk Point Food Pantry has more items to stock on their shelves. On May 9, the girl scouts donated money and food items to the pantry.

Union County Board of Commissioners hear tower estimate

At a prior meeting, the Union County Board of County Commissioners were informed the current communications tower couldn’t be relocated and would have to be replaced. At their meeting May 16, the commissioners heard the estimate for building a new tower at a different location on the courthouse property.
