DV Panthers play aggressively against EPJ Huskies

Elk Point-Jefferson was in town on Thursday, Feb. 1 to face the Panther girls basketball team. Dakota Valley led 11- 4 with under 2 minutes to play in the 1st quarter. Drives to the hoop and staying quick on offense had the Panthers in control early.

DV Honor Band performs at USD

Five members of the Dakota Valley high school band attended the 25th Annual Quad State Honor Band Festival at the University of South Dakota on Feb. 2 and Feb.

DV Debate competes in Yankton, Sioux Falls

Members of the Dakota Valley speech and debate team were in Yankton on Jan. 26 and 27 for the Lewis and Clark Invitational. The Panthers faced competition from Sioux Falls, Watertown, Brookings, Mitchell, Huron, Beresford and other areas of South Dakota.

County to provide law enforcement service to Alcester

Effective Jan. 23, 2024, Union County took over policing in the City of Alcester. A contract was provided to the Union County Board of County Commissioners at their meeting on Jan. 23. According to the contract, the Union County Sheriff’s Office will provide 30 hours per week of law enforcement service to the City of Alcester. In order to compensate for this, the City of Alcester agreed to pay $100,000 annually to the county for five years. The City of Alcester also transferred ownership of their 2019 Dodge Charger PO Sedan and full access to the office space within the current police building at no cost to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
