The Dakota Valley School District #61-8 held its regular board of education meeting on October 14, 2024, at the Dakota Valley Board Room. The meeting, which commenced at 6:00 PM, was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Jeff Dooley. The roll call indicated the presence of members Dooley, Andrew Nilges, Emily Norby, and Matt Thompson, with Steve Kistner being absent. Administrators Dr. Tonia Warzecha and Business Manager Jill Sponder were also in attendance.

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session on October 15, 2024, at the Courthouse in Elk Point, SD. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. and was attended by Commissioners Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Richard Headid, Peggy Ustad, and Tom Kimmel. One of the decisions made during the meeting was the approval of the agenda, with the addition of a potential county burn ban. This motion was put forward by Kimmel and seconded by Dailey, and it was carried.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Girl Scout Troop 161 is on a mission to make a difference in their community through their Bronze Award project. This group of ten junior Girl Scouts, consisting of 4th and 5th graders, has been working with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Organization in Sioux City to provide bedding for those in need. Their dedication and hard work have already made a significant impact, and they continue spreading the word about their upcoming bedding drive.

The Huskies took on competition from across the river on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. It was a quick volleyball match as Elk Point-Jefferson defeated the South Sioux City (SSC) Cardinals in a 3 set sweep at home.

It was a tough contest for Elk Point-Jefferson, in football, on Friday, October 18, 2024. The Huskies traveled to Sioux Valley to take on the Cossacks in a game that would outline postseason match-ups for both squads.

The 3A Regions meet for Class A cross country was hosted by the Huskies on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at The Pointe Golf Course. The familiar territory had Elk Point-Jefferson running well and ending the day with a state qualifier.

Two epic days of golf were in store for 3 Elk Point-Jefferson golfers at the 2024 state meet on October 7-8, 2024. The event took place in Hartford, South Dakota at Central Valley Golf Course. It was a familiar venue for state qualifiers Carter Langle, Ben Akin and Austin Hanson as all had played the course for the DAK 12 conference meet, as well as at regionals.
