The North Sioux City Fire Department held their annual Awards Banquet Dec. 10, 2022.

The Dakota Valley School Board’s first meeting of 2023 was held Jan. 9. After a half-hour executive session, the board approved extending Superintendent Dr. Tonia Warzecha’s contract for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. Her salary remains to be determined.

The Elk Point Police Department will be using the Elk Point-Jefferson school for training opportunities on Jan. 21 and 22. During the active shooter training, the school facilities will be off limits during those two days.

Internships are meant to help people determine whether they enjoy a job or not. For one Elk Point-Jefferson senior, his internship led to a job opportunity.

The first Union County Board of County Commissioners meeting of 2023 was rescheduled from Tuesday, Jan. 3 to Thursday, Jan. 5 due to poor weather conditions. During the rescheduled meeting, the commissioners determined various appointments to the county, including chairman and vice-chairman.
