Dakota Valley girls battle top regional competition

    On Tuesday, January 13, 2026 the Panther girls basketball team hosted a top ranked West Central (WC) squad. The WC Trojans came to North Sioux City with an impressive winning record and multiple weapons on the court.

    DV Students launch first-ever Spark Market

    The Dakota Valley Parent-Teacher Organization invites the community to support the next generation of local entrepreneurs at the first annual Dakota Valley Spark Market, a studentrun marketplace designed to introduce young learners to entrepreneurship and business skills in a hands-on, engaging way.

    Panthers shine in Big Idea contest

    Last semester, Dakota Valley high schoolers in Jill Sponder’s Introduction to Business class stayed busy developing projects that centered around an innovative business idea. They took those ideas and entered the projects in the 2025 Big Idea South Dakota (SD) Competition. It was an excellent learning experience for all. In addition to being thrilled with her class’s involvement, Sponder was excited with the strong showing by DV when it came to awards.

    Dakota Valley principal resigns

    The Dakota Valley Board of Education moved through a full agenda on Jan. 12, taking action on staffing, transportation, facility projects and a proposed cell tower lease during its regular monthly meeting.

    Horizon Health Foundation launches Drive it Home ’26

    The Horizon Health Foundation will be hosting a raffle during its Drive It Home ’26 campaign that kicked off on January 19th. The campaign is set to raise $100,000 to support the purchase of chronic care kits as part of Pillar II of the Healthier Horizons program.

    EPJ board renews admin contracts

    The Elk Point‑Jefferson Board of Education accepted several staff resignations, renewed administrative contracts and highlighted student achievements during its regular meeting Jan. 12.

    Huskies set for regional one‑act stage

    The Huskies have been commanding the stage as of late as Elk Point-Jefferson’s high school theater program prepares for their 2026 regional one-act competition. The Huskies are under the direction of EPJ one-act advisor Kirsten Colt. They have been hard at work preparing to perform a comedy for this season’s one-act performance. The play is called Dress Rehearsal Disaster. Colt described the script as “a hilarious play within a play and what happens when things don’t go as planned during the rehearsal process”.

    EPJ Grapplers battle through Parker, Vermillion duals

    Wrestlers of Elk Point-Jefferson were kept busy as they traveled for high school duals on January 13, 2026 and January 15, 2026. Their first destination was Parker, South Dakota where the Huskies wrestled against the Parker Pheasants, Parkston Trojans and Flandreau Fliers. Two days later, EPJ wrestled in Vermillion versus the Tanagers and also the Lennox Orioles.

    EPJ stuns Wagner, continue strong play in busy week

    It was a packed gym on January 13, 2026 for Husky girls basketball as the Wagner Red Raiders were in Elk Point. Wagner’s roster boasted top recruit Ashlyn Koupal who is committed to play basketball at the University of Nebraska next fall. In addition to fans and family, Coach Amy Williams with the Nebraska Cornhuskers also attended the game to observe the contest between EPJ and Wagner.
