The Sioux City Metros hosted the number one team in the Midwest High School Hockey League (MHSHL) standings, the Kansas City Jets Saturday, Jan. 28.

Two more competitive games happened for the Dakota Valley boys basketball team on Thursday, Jan. 26th versus #2 ranked Sioux Falls Christian (SFC) and on Saturday, Jan. 28 versus Clark/Willow Lake (CWL). The Panthers played strong and garnered two more notches in the win column.

Colorado State University Brooke Carlson, a Dakota Valley 2022 Graduate, made the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA. She’s studying Mechanical Engineering in the Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering program.

The South Dakota Music Education Association will present the 24th Annual SD Middle School All-State Band on March 4, 2023 in the Huron High School Auditorium at 3 p.m. This concert will feature over 200 6th-8th graders from across the state performing in two bands under the direction of Dr. Alan LaFave and Mr. Jeff Patzlaff.

Two tough opponents faced the Dakota Valley girls basketball roster to end the month of January. The Panthers fell 48-60 to Sioux Falls Christian (SFC) at home on Thursday, Jan. 26 and would lose a close one to Milbank on Saturday, Jan. 28 by a score of 43-53.

Wrestlers for Dakota Valley visited Tea on Thursday, Jan. 26 for a triangular versus the Titans and the Lennox Orioles.

Recently the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, which is a staple in the community and an enjoyable place for locals and out-of-towners, underwent updates and renovations to the visitor center and trail systems. The upgrades included new exhibits and new interpretive signs.

The South Dakota Department of Education’s division of Child and Adult Nutrition Services is seeking local sponsors to assist with running a federally-funded program that provides nutritious meals and snacks to children in low-income areas during the summer months. Community organizations, nonpro_ts, schools and tribal and local governments can apply to be sponsors if they operate in low-income areas, serve a group of mostly low-income children or operate a summer camp with a high proportion of low-income participants.
