Dakota Valley art students showcase their talent

February was a busy month for high school artists at Dakota Valley. Two students, Morgan Martin and Mia Oliva, had art pieces selected for the Sioux City Art Center’s 36th Annual Youth Art Month Exhibition.

Metros win MHSHLTournament ChampTitle

Dakota Valley Junior Noah Graham said it well when he said, “Playoff hockey is always high-intensity and we are prepared to compete at a high level. We understand that everyone at the tournament is capable of making it far”. This year was no exception. The Sioux City Metros would have to defeat Lincoln and Waterloo to advance to the Midwest High School Hockey League (MHSHL) Championship Tournament Game on March 1st.

Some Elk Point-Jefferson students took the literal plunge on Saturday, February 15, 2025 to benefit Special Olympic athletes from throughout South Dakota.

County approves budget

Union County Commissioners approved new hires, infrastructure agreements, and a provisional 2026 budget during their Aug. 19 regular meeting, while reviewing more than $17.4 million in managed funds and authorizing over $500,000 in claims.

New EPJ board member sworn in

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education approved a $304,431 payment to Huff Construction, finalized its 2025–26 salary listings, and enacted several policy updates during its regular meeting and budget hearing held Aug. 11. The board also welcomed a new member and approved multiple personnel changes as the district prepares for the upcoming school year.

The Dakota Valley school district hosted their open house on Thursday, August 14, 2025. The middle school and high school were open for students and families to visit, meet teachers, find classrooms and allow students to practice their locker combinations.

Only board members Janet Finzen and Bill Shorma were absent for the regular meeting of the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) on July 21, 2025. Introduction to new teachers at Elk Point-Jefferson

EPJ kicks off school year with open house

Students and their families could stop by the Elk Point-Jefferson school from 3 pm to 7 pm for this year’s open house on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Grades 6th through 12th were encouraged to attend as all get ready to usher in the 2025/26 school year. Families with students in junior kindergarten through 5th grade received email notifications in order to set up their own visits with teachers.

DV boys soccer opens season with gritty road performance

The Panther boys high school soccer team started off the fall season on Saturday, August 16, 2025 with an away match versus the Freeman Academy Bobcats. It was a close contest that had Dakota Valley leading at the half by a score of 2-1. However, their opponent made some adjustments in the 2nd half to overcome the deficit and take the lead. The Panthers were handed a loss by a score of 3-5.
