Golf carts may be allowed on portions of Big Sioux Levee Trail

A discussion of safety resulted as subdivision of the Big Sioux Bike Bridge agreement with Sioux City at the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) meeting April 17. Two Rivers Golf Course PGA Head Professional Rodd Slater was in attendance to discuss the possibility of using part of the Big Sioux Levee Trail for golf carts so people can safely make it to the golf course.

Dakota Valley High School Jazz Band places 1st at festival

On Tuesday, March 28, members of the Panther jazz band visited Norfolk, NE for the Northeast Community College Jazz Band Festival. “Jazz Band received a superior plus rating from one judge and high superiors from the other two judges and finished in 4th place,” Dakota Valley Band Director Daryl Jessen detailed.

Dial wins technical drafting competition

Caden Dial, a senior at Dakota Valley High School, competed in the Technical Drafting competition at the South Dakota SkillsUSA State Conference out in Rapid City this past week. The competition was held at Western Dakota Tech. Dial has won this competition now for two years. Speed limit questioned on CR23

Steve Ballard and Andrew Nilges (via phone) approached the Union County Board of County Commissioners April 18 about the speed limit on County Road 23 (CR). The portion of road discussed was from North Sioux City to Wynstone.

Dunes resident killed in two-vehicle accident

A Dakota Dunes resident was identified as one of the two individuals who died in a two-vehicle accidents Thursday, April 13. Randall Kenton Shideler, 54, of Dakota Dunes and Raymond James Frye of Orange City were identified as the two individuals killed on County Road K-18 just north of Butcher Road in southwest Plymouth County.

Meyer sworn in, changes to Verna Street construction

After approving the agenda and meeting minutes from April 3 and 11, the North Sioux City Council swore in their newest council member, April 17. Greg Meyer was sworn in to fill the vacant council member seat for Ward 4 left by Adam Spates when he resigned after accepting a position with the North Sioux City Police Department.

Bruns has incredible high school sports career

Isaac Bruns, of Wynstone in Jefferson, SD, is having an incredible senior year of high school. This past March he helped lead the Dakota Valley varsity boys basketball team to back-to-back state championships and two consecutive undefeated seasons. Girls finish 6th, boys 9th at Titan Invite

On Tuesday, April 11 the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies Track teams participated in the Titan Track Invitational. This event took place at two facilities, with throws and horizontal jumps taking place in Vermillion, and the running events and vertical jumps taking place at the home facility in Tea Area.
