New dance studio located in Dakota Dunes

A new dance studio just opened up on 317 Dakota Dunes Blvd Suite E. in Dakota Dunes South Dakota. Elevate Dance Academy opened its doors offering two fun summer dance camps earlier this month. They are offering two more summer camps along with pop up classes in July.

Due to recent flooding in McCook Lake, Siouxland, Jefferson and beyond many area locations were set up to provide help to those in need. Riverside Lutheran Church, in Sioux City, served as a hub and volunteer spot and this photo was taken during the last week of June 2024. Submitted photo

An open house celebration at St. Peter’s Community Center was held for Father Joe Vogel on Sunday, June 30th. Vogel served as a priest for St. Peter’s in Jefferson, St. Teresa’s in Dakota Dunes and St. Joseph’s in Elk Point. The retirement open house happened from 2pm to 5pm with a program occurring at 3pm.

Authorities say Big Sioux River rose to record level faster than anticipated; residents criticize response

Homes were ruined, roads were washed out, sinkholes opened up, a railroad bridge was destroyed, and rescuers worked through Sunday night into Monday morning to save people from rising floodwaters in the McCook Lake area of southeastern South Dakota.

During the week of Monday, June 10, 2024, bridge work began on the Interstate 29 overpass at exit 1 near Dakota Dunes. Work on the project includes approach pavement replacement, bridge railing modifications, and berm repair for the overpass structure.
