EPJ has strong first showing at spring state tourney

Elk Point-Jefferson had a strong showing at the South Dakota spring high school baseball state tournament on May 26-27, 2025. The best teams in Class B were in Brookings to battle it out in a single elimination bracket.

The talented Elk Point-Jefferson baseball squad of 2025 can add the title of state qualifier to their list of accolades. On Wednesday, May 21, 2025 the Huskies punched their ticket to state with wins over Beresford Area and Vermillion in regional play.

DV Panther baseball heads to state tourney

The Panther varsity baseball team took care of business and qualified for the state tourney during regional play on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. It was a cool evening, but Dakota Valley was on fire to beat Freeman/Canistota/ Marion (FCM) and then pull off the upset versus top ranked Parkston.

Panther girls stay tough, attempt a comeback

A late rally, in the 7th inning, was not enough for Dakota Valley to eclipse Dell Rapids (DR) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Playing at Bowen Field, on the campus of Augustana University, the Panthers came back from 0-5 to tie things near the end of the game. The Quarriers of DR would garner another run during their final at-bat. This resulted in DV loss by a score of 5-6.

Panther track teams finish season strong

After two weeks off due to crazy spring weather, the Panther high school track team was finally able to compete on May 22, 2025. Dakota Valley took to the track and field for the Southeast South Dakota Showcase meet in Vermillion on May 22, 2025. The Panthers brought their strongest competitors for running, throwing, hurdling and jumping.

EPJ Husky track teams finish season strong

Track and field for Elk Point-Jefferson had a full day on May 22, 2025 as they competed in the last regular meet of the season. Hosted by Vermillion, the Southeast South Dakota Showcase offered area high schools a final chance to make qualifying times and marks for the upcoming state meet.

Huskies started strong against the Madison Bulldogs

Cold spring weather wreaked havoc on the softball schedule for the Huskies as their game versus Madison was delayed 1 day. It also had to be played at a different venue. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, as an away game versus the Bulldogs, it was postponed until Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at noon. The game was played on a turf field at the Sanford Diamonds in Sioux Falls.

Panther heavy hitters helped score big over Tornadoes

For the 1st full week of May, the Panther baseball team went 1-1 versus opponents on their home field. Defense and pitching were highlighted on Monday, May 5, 2025 as Dakota Valley fell to Vermillion 0-1. The bats heated back up on Thursday, May 8, 2025 as the Panthers won versus Centerville.

Panthers go the distance, break records at recent meets

Better weather was finally sticking around for high school track and Dakota Valley was taking advantage of Mother Nature’s generosity. Personal records, season best times and top marks were garnered by the Panthers in the 1st full week of May.

Dakota Valley golfers compete well at Dell Rapids Invite

Freshman Katie Betsworth shot an outstanding round of golf to take 1st place, at the Dell Rapids Invite, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Betsworth secured a score of 77 to be just +5 over par. Her Dakota Valley teammates also had great games for the roster to finish high on the podium.
