Football season opened for the Huskies with an away game on August 21, 2026 on Gene Danielsen Field which is home to the Fighting Cougars of McCook Central/ Montrose (MCM). Elk Point-Jefferson was ready for the competitive game and played hard to secure the win by a score of 28-13. Jacob Terry, head coach for the Husky football squad, was pleased with his team’s performance.

The Panther girls soccer team dominated in their home opener on August 18, 2026 as they defeated the Trojans of West Central by a score of 3-1. Six minutes into the game, Millie Squier, on defense, sent a nice ball up to Alexis Stusse in the midfield. From there Stusse found Quinn Bostead who then located Mallory Riibe coming up the side. Riibe passed to Isabella Mijangos who put the ball up to Sophie Meyer at outside forward. The ball was close to the goal and Meyer made a fantastic run, but brushed up with the Trojan’s goalkeeper. No goal was garnered, but it was early in the contest and already DV was moving the ball well.

The 2026 EPJ boys golf season got underway Tuesday (August 18, 2026) at the West Central Invite at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford. Each season brings excitement and optimism about what the Huskies can accomplish individually and as a team. Tuesday’s tournament gave the players an opportunity to show off the work they had put in throughout the summer. EPJ finished 6th as a team with a score of 314, finishing just nine strokes out of the top three. The 314 was an impressive start to the season and ranks as the secondlowest team score in EPJ boys golf history.

Golfers for the Dakota Valley boys team played in a couple of meets, in addition to starting school, during the 3rd week of August. Ten Panthers were at Central Valley Golf Course, in Hartford, on August 18, 2026 for the West Central Invite. More underclassmen battled the links on August 20 as they competed in the Madison Invite.

Dakota Valley fell 5-2 at Freeman on Saturday, Aug. 15, but the Panthers showed clear improvement from last season.

Speed was an asset for the Dakota Valley girls soccer team on August 14, 2026 in Aberdeen. They defeated Groton by a score of 10-2 in incredible fashion. Senior Sophia Meyer went off for the Panthers and was responsible for 6 goals in the match. Playing with a lean roster, Dakota Valley (DV) persevered with a couple of middle schoolers, Eliana Corporon and Kiley Ryan, stepping up to be goalkeepers.

Strong play at the 2026 South Dakota Class B Senior Legion state tourney had Dakota Valley battling hard from July 31-August 4, 2026. The seasoned Panther squad played well on their way to a state runnerup finish. They showcased grit and talent after a 4-6 loss to Madison, in the 1st round, on July 31, 2026. However, Dakota Valley (DV) was not done in the double elimination tournament. The Panthers would go on a win streak that had them making it to the finals on Sunday, August 4, 2026.

A talented roster from Dakota Valley (DV) played hard at the junior legion state tourney, in Redfield, South Dakota, on August 7-9, 2026. Each of their 3 contests were determined by only a 1-run differential. Taking a tough 1st round loss, DV battled back through the loser’s bracket to garner 2 more wins. This meant they left Redfield with a 5th place state finish.

Three straight wins in regional play happened for Dakota Valley’s junior legion roster from July 27–29, 2026. The trio of victories meant the Panthers extended their season and punched a ticket to state. Dakota Valley had no losses during Region 3B play.

As host and competitor, Elk Point-Jefferson’s junior legion roster made a deep run in the Region 3B tournament from July 27-29, 2026. The Huskies played hard to make it to the championships versus a solid Dakota Valley (DV) squad. The score in the finals was a Husky loss by 7-16.
