Malyn (Mal) Ray Eidem, 87, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 9, 2024, in Rapid City, SD. There will be a service followed by a luncheon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elk Point, SD, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11 a.m.

Paul S. Michels, 75, North Sioux City, SD, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 3, 2024, surrounded by his sister Mary Jo and his brother Steve following a four-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Paul was born on July 12, 1948, and was the second child of Ronald and Marnie Michels. He graduated from Emery High School in 1966 and attended the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1970. After graduation, he served in the US Army in Korea for two years. Upon his return, he purchased Sandy’s Bar in Emery. Paul later purchased Carey’s Bar in Vermillion, which he ran for the next 20 years. Paul moved to North Sioux City, owning numerous small businesses, including a newspaper and magazine delivery business and a property management business.

Peggy passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, June 15, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson, SD with Father Joe Vogel as Celebrant. Burial followed at St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, was two hours prior at the church Friday. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel assisted the family. Online Condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroshcapels.com Peggy was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 24, 1937 to Evelyn (Pfiel) and Frank Echols of Sioux City, Iowa. Soon after she was born, her mother took ill. Her Grandparents, Louis and Gertrude Pfiel raised her until their deaths in 1955. After that she lived with her mom. Peggy graduated from Heelan High School in 1955. After High school she went to work in an office until she met the love of her life, Alfred LaCroix and they Married on Nov 22, 1958. Together they raised five children; Jackie, Renee, Jeff, Michelle, and Julie. They lived in Cedar Rapids until 1975 when they moved back to Jefferson to the farm. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She never drove but when her kids started driving, she was the one to show them how to navigate around Sioux City. After raising her own kids, she helped in taking care of her grandkids. Her great grandkids loved visiting her and raiding her cookie jar.

Patricia Ann Olson was born Nov. 1, 1943, at Vermillion, S.D., to Philip and Mildred (Halderson) Ofstehage. She grew up on the family farm in rural Union County, S.D., and received her elementary education at the one-room Walnut Grove Country School. She began her first year of high school at Augustana Academy in Canton, S.D., but transferred to Vermillion High School later in the year. She then took one-year off from her high school studies to undergo back surgery. She recovered from the surgery at home while in a cast for six months. She was blessed with loving care from her parents, siblings and extended family members.

Janice K. Peterson, 76, went home to be with Jesus on June 27, 2024. She was surrounded by her girls at home. Jan was born on June 23, 1948 to Willis and Alvina Morse in Akron, Iowa. She was raised on a farm in Elk Point, SD with her 2 siblings, Ralph and Myra. She had her own house cleaning business for many years in Elk Point. She was a hard worker and held a few other jobs too.

Patricia Ann (Null) Hoffman, age 88 of North Sioux City SD passed away at her home in the care of her family on June 18, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial was June 26, 2024 at 10:30 am, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sioux City, IA with Father Tim Friedrichsen celebrant. A luncheon follewed at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Jefferson SD. Visitation was June 25, 2024 from 5-7 with a prayer service held at 7pm at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Verna Alvina Pardun, 97, of Vermillion, South Dakota passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Canton, South Dakota. She had previously been hospitalized at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls and was moved to the Canton facility on June 6,2024.

Judy Kay (Wilson) Vavra, 77, a beloved woman, known for her kindness and warmth of Elk Point, SD, peacefully departed from this world on, June 7, 2024, 2024 at a local hospital, in Sioux City, where she was born on July 20, 1946 at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the only child of Howard Wilson and Meroe Imogene (Buser).

Hazel Mae Kneebone, of Marion, South Dakota, formerly of Elk Point, South Dakota passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. Private Family Graveside service was be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Elk Point Cemetery in Elk Point, SD.

Nancy L. Brown, 79, of Jefferson, South Dakota, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at her residence.
