Fire destroys Elk Point home

In the early hours of June 16, a destructive fire engulfed an Elk Point home in the 100 block of W. Jefferson St. The fire was reported shortly after 1 a.m., prompting a swift response from the local fire department. In a coordinated effort, Vermillion and North Sioux City Fire departments also rushed to the scene to lend their support.

Immanuel Lutheran Church Scuba VBS

Immanuel Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church recently hosted an exciting event, the Scuba VBS, which took place from June 4 - 7. It was a huge success, with 29 participants, five teen helpers, and eight adult helpers involved, all led by Pastor Erik Olson. One adorable highlight of the event was the presence of an unofficial mascot, Buck the dog, who enthusiastically participated in the underwater theme by wearing a delightful shark costume throughout the week.

Food Trucks in the Park

Dakota Dunes residents gathered at the Prairie Park on Sunday, June 9 for the annual “Food Trucks in the Park” event hosted by the Dakota Dunes Community Association. Local vendors were on-hand to serve up 600 meals from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Jeff VanDenHul retires from Dakota Valley

Jeff VanDenHul, of McCook Lake, has been a mainstay at Dakota Valley as a teacher, coach, parent, fan and more. However, after over three decades with the district Van-DenHul is retiring and will be greatly missed.

NSC Library Summer reading kick-off party

It was a great day for the North Sioux City Community Library on Tuesday, June 4 as they kicked off their summer ready program with a big community party. Many attended and were able to play games, enjoy lunch, slide down water inflatables and eat snow cones.
