April 2025 Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month

The month of April 2025 in South Dakota now holds a new meaning. Governor Larry Rhoden signed the proclamation, which acknowledges the challenges faced by the 5.6 million Americans living with limb loss and limb difference.

A 'Tangled' night

Dakota Valley seniors and juniors, plus their dates, donned formalwear for prom on Saturday, April 4, 2025. This year’s theme was “Tangled” based on the Disney animated film that revolved around the fairytale of Rapunzel.

SDDOT seeks public input for Northshore Drive project in NSC

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public meeting open house on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (CT) at the North Sioux City Community Center, located at 205 Sodrac Dr. The purpose of this public meeting open house is to discuss and receive public input on the environmental assessment and section 4(f) evaluation for the Northshore Drive realignment project.

County approves TIF plan for Dunes growth

The Union County Board of Commissioners met on April 1, 2025, for their regular session at the Courthouse in Elk Point, South Dakota. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m., with all members present: Commissioners Dailey, Joffer, Kimmel, Ustad, and Ballard.

Meet the candidates

On April 8, North Sioux City will see five races—one for four different seats on the City Council and one for the Mayor. To get to know the candidates better, the Dakota Dunes/North Sioux City Times asked each individual for some background information.

North Sioux City Candidate Town Hall

Commissioner and mayor candidates for North Sioux City gathered in the council chambers along with the general public on Monday, March 24, 2025. They were together for a town hall event prior to the upcoming local election. Hosts for the gathering were the McCook Lake Association, the American Legion and the Dakota Valley Business Council.

Two invited to 2026 Special Olympics USA Games

Important visitors from Minnesota were at Elk Point-Jefferson high school on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Julie Briggs, Vice President-Outreach Unified Champion Schools, and Turner Gaines, Director of Unified Champion City Schools, were in town to surprise Husky students Yixian Norby and Gracelynn Bruns.

DV Quiz bowl DAK XII champs

The DAK XII conference tournament for high school quiz bowl was held on Monday, March 24, 2025. The competition happened at Tri-Valley high school in Colton, South Dakota. Dakota Valley sent a varsity roster of all seniors to the tournament and they brought home gold.
