Four smart and talented 12th graders, at Dakota Valley, have been named to the prestigious list of National Merit Scholars for 2025. They are: Prithvi Patti, Abigail Burhoop, Brendan Lindsay and Isaac Klemme.

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 5:30 pm in the high school study hall. President Geary called the meeting to order, and board members Brewer, Hanson, Jacobs, and Sayler were present. Superintendent Schonebaum, Business Manager Watterson, Principals Eriksen and Throener, Technology Coordinator Larsen, and K-12 Dean of Students/Activities Director Clercx attended. Dakota Valley alum and Morningside University student Alex Reinhardt passed away on February 26, 2023. However, his memory lives on due to Reinhardt’s generous nature as an organ donor. This act led to an incredible opportunity for the Reinhardt family as they got to meet one of the individuals whose life is now forever changed thanks to Alex.

In North Sioux City, South Dakota, a recount in the recent special election has altered the outcome of the one-year commissioner race. Initially, David James Wilch was declared the winner by a narrow margin of two votes over Vincent D. Tucker. However, after a recount conducted on April 15, Tucker emerged victorious with 400 votes to Wilch’s 398.
