South Dakota’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) held their state leadership conference on April 13-14, 2026 in Pierre, South Dakota. Justine Sponder, the Dakota Valley (DV) high school business teacher, accompanied a dozen Panther students to the state’s capital for the event.

The North Sioux City Plan‑ning Commission opened a pub‑lic hearing Wednesday on the city’s updated Comprehensive Plan and received several devel‑opment and construction updates during its April 22 meeting at City Hall.

The Union County Commission moved quickly through a light agenda Tuesday, approving two property assessment appeals and authorizing contracts tied to upcoming county projects. Commissioners Kevin Joffer, Michael Dailey, Bob Ballard and Peggy Ustad opened the April 21 meeting at 9:30 a.m.

The North Sioux City Commis‑sion moved forward Monday with key flood‑recovery projects and ap‑proved a land acquisition needed for the Northshore Drive re‑alignment. Mayor Chris Bogenrief called the April 20 meeting to or‑der at 6 p.m. Commis‑sioners Julie Burhoop, Lynn Hoffman and Jes‑sica Strain were present; Vincent Tucker was absent. City Administrator Jeff Dooley, Fi‑nance Officer Amy Lilly and City Attorney Sarah Kleber also attend‑ed.

Local law enforcement officers, Special Olympics athletes and community members will take part in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in Elk Point on Monday, May 11. The event will begin at 11:15 a.m.

Dakota Valley’s performing arts center was booked for three nights from April 16-18, 2026 for the high school theater department’s production of Guys and Dolls Jr. Director Jody Robertson brought the show to life with musical direction from Panther choir teacher Kari Wilmes. A cast and crew of over 20 students helped brighten the stage with well acted scenes and fun musical numbers.

As National Library Week was observed na‑tionwide April 19–25, the North Sioux City Commu‑nity Library is being high‑lighted for its year‑round role as a resource for learn‑ing, technology access and community connection.

The Dakota Valley School Board approved a series of staffing changes, contract actions and program agreements during its April 13 regu‑lar meeting, moving forward on preparations for the 2026‑27 school year.
