The Union County Commission reviewed state open‑meeting requirements and advanced several highway and personnel matters during its regular meeting March 3 at the courthouse in Elk Point. Commissioners Kevin Joffer, Michael Dailey, Tom Kimmel, Peggy Ustad and Bob Ballard were present.

An induction ceremony for Dakota Valley’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) was held on Monday, March 2, 2026 in the Performing Arts Center. Stacey Langley, the NJHS adviser, coordinated the event. Ella Greene and Aubrey Bird, Panther 8th graders, served as the masters of ceremony.

The Board of Supervisors for the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) met on February 17, 2026 for a meeting. Members on hand included: Scott Wetz, Ken Beaulieu, Dalton Hanson and Janet Finzen. William Shorma was absent. Attorney Darrell Jesse, Dunes Community Association Manager Kim Leif, Sheriff Jim Prouty, Two Rivers Golf Course’s Rodd Slater and CID Manager Andrew Tramp were also present plus Dakota Dunes resident Larry Wiese.

A driver who fled from a traffic stop Sunday evening died after a pursuit through North Sioux City ended in a three‑vehicle crash that destroyed two police units, according to Union County authorities.

Dakota Dunes residents were notified this week that the speed limit on Dakota Dunes Boulevard will remain 35 mph, following more than a year of review by the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District and the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Because the speed limit is unchanged, golf carts will continue to be prohibited from operating on the boulevard, except when crossing at designated points. The update applies only to Dakota Dunes residents.

Dakota Valley high schoolers gathered in the Panther theater room on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 to participate in a question and answer session with South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson. An estimated 75 pupils, mostly upperclassmen, were in attendance. All members of Dakota Valley’s student council organization were onhand.

The North Sioux City Commission approved two medical cannabis ordinance updates, an Economic Development Administration grant application and several financial actions during its Feb. 17 regular meeting.
